“Homewell & Friendsick”

Isn’t it special to miss someone?

Grace (the lead of STS) and Mar Fink first became friends in 2019 at Willamette University. They played together in Sove The Second for about a year, then in 2020 COVID-19 entered the US. Mar graduated and moved back to the east coast, and Grace stayed in the west, taking a year off from her studies. They’d grown to be close friends, and were surprised to find distance connecting them even more so with weekly FaceTimes, video blogs, Netflix Teleparty, and yearly reunion trips.

In 2023 Grace and Mar traveled up and down the east coast, evading the smoke from the Canadian fires with just a corolla, acoustic guitar, and poorly packed bags. In the car from Portland to New Jersey they practiced new harmonies to what is now “Homewell & Friendsick”, and wrote out the chords overnight. From New Jersey to Boston they talked about how special friendship is, and how there needed to be more love songs about platonic connection, “I’m here, you’re there, it’s unfair,” said Mar. In Boston they found a round, brick walkway, and followed it around the city. Upon her return to Idaho, Grace found that walking down the greenbelt brought back memories of walking in Boston with Mar. It amended her grief, and put into practice a philosophy that will shape her friendships to come: isn’t it special to miss someone?
